This past week we have continued to see stocks in the U.S. stock exchange and other global markets slide, and oil prices spike, as a result of President Trump’s decision to join the war in Iran.

We are indeed in unprecedented times, and markets all over the world are reacting to every headline regarding the direction of the war in the Middle East. This is what is known as a headline-driven market.

Overview of the Week On Wall Street

The beginning of the week saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average rise over 600 points on hopes of a Middle East de-escalation, as President Trump announced a halt to planned strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.

By mid-week those gains faded as the President shifted from potential peace talks to threats to obliterate Iranian power stations, causing high volatility.

Tech stocks weighed the heaviest on indexes, with Meta Platforms, Inc. (META), NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) and Alphabet, Inc. (GOOG) all falling.

As of today, markets turned even lower, suffering their worst day since the start of the conflict in Iran. This has led to oil prices rising to over $110 per barrel, bringing renewed fears of inflation. Since the war started, the cost of U.S. crude oil is up more than 40%. Since the start of the year, it has risen more than 60%.

You may have seen that the Nasdaq 100 is officially into correction territory. A correction is when an index falls 10% or more from its most recent all-time high. As of Thursday's close, the index is now down 10.9% from its October high.

As you may recall, 45 days ago I highly recommended WMT, TRV and COST because I knew institutional investors favor high quality dividend paying stocks over AI and technology stocks.

Stay with the WI program and its principles and I will help you generate income, no matter which direction the stock market moves.
