Fast Money Blog- 1/9/26

Now that 2026 has begun I thought it would be interesting to see how some Dow and S&P components have performed over the first trading week of the new year.

Apple, Inc. (AAPL) stock stayed in a tight trading range, as Wall Street focused on broader market issues instead of the tech sector.

Over the past 5 days AAPL moved between a low of $255.70 and a high of $271.51.

This was an explosive week for shares of Amazon.com (AMZN). Wall Street is clearly looking forward to blockbuster Q4 2025 revenue. In particular, Wall Street Insiders expect blowout sales from Amazon’s Web Services (AWS) sector, which is the world’s leading cloud computing platform.

Over the past 5 days AMZN moved between a low of $227.18 and a high of $246.92.

Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) stock was range-bound this week, all due to its potential acquisition of Warner Bros, valued at $82.7 billion. Wall Street investors question the cost and the uncertainty of such a large-scale merger. Because of this I don’t expect the stock to rise within the next 60 days.

It’s good to keep in mind that whenever one publicly traded company buys another publicly traded company, shares of the buyer's stock typically decline.

Over the past 5 days NFLX moved between a low of $88.32 and a high of $92.63.

Costco Wholesale Corporation (COST) had a great week, which was helped by yesterday’s release of its December 2025 sales figures. Notably, Costco enjoyed strong gains in its online business, which saw sales surge 18.3% year-over-year, and its overall sales, which were up 8.5%.

Over the past 5 days COST moved between a low of $871.30 and a high of $931.67.

Just a reminder that it’s important not to draw too many conclusions from these observations, as volatility will begin to pick up as we get further into January. But as a part of your financial education, you should know that the holiday season is historically a time when large institutions rotate into companies that pay a dividend and have consistently delivered strong sales.
